You're the one who's showers always golden

So I was thinking the other day, as I sat on the commode that, well wait, first things first.

Since I practically live in Lyndsey's dorm, I've made a few changes to my lifestyle to reflect this. Three other women live here, and as such the bathroom is sacred land. I don't want to make my presence known in there, I want to do my business and get out before I'm discovered. So, I've started sitting down to piss. I figure its safer this way. If I stand, I could miss, and then I have no one to shift the blame to like I do at my hosue, and so would have to clean it up myself or be killed in my sleep.

So, I sat down to piss, and I was thinking, the toilet seat is a sexist invention. I don't mean the idea of a seat itself, obviously your rear needs some comfort, but the idea that it should be an adjustable part. Why is there an UP position for the seat? Why isn't it just built in the DOWN position?

Answer: Because men would feel equal to women, and wouldn't think they're cool for standing up to piss. Sexist pigs.

Lyndsey and I do child care for a cohousing group, Great Oak every 1st Wednesday and 3rd Monday. They're in the building/planning stages of the construction of the community, so they have business meetings that we do child care for. One of the families with some of the children is moving from a 3000sqft house to a 1300sqft condo at GOCOHO (what a great acronym). So, shes got to get rid of stuff. So we went today and got a nice stereo and a vaccuum cleaner (oh boy!).

Anyway, on the way back, we say this guy walking down the street. He looked like a college student (probably was) and was carrying something in front of him. We didn't see what it was until we were nearly past him. It was a large piece of cardboard with
WAR = TERROR
written on it. If we'd seen it earlier I would've rolled down my window to give a thumbs up or something. What a cool guy.

What????

I'm an easy going guy, and I'm pretty tolerable of things like that, if people ASK! But when you do it without asking me, you just go ahead and do it and leave it for me to discover when I return to my room to take a shower, when you say NOTHING when you see that I've moved everything back how it was before........

Fuckers

My friends are so lame. Honestly. I'll address them individually.

Matt - wouldn't drive down from Holland to hang out

J - cut his hair

Deke - had to go to bed so he could get up in the morning so he could drive to A2 so he could go to work

Charles - likes The Clash

Josh - had a curfew of 12, so wouldn't come hang out at 10:30.

Grr.

I dunno. I'm just joking, of course, but its interesting. When we were younger, we would stay up all night doing crazy stuff. Even a year ago I can remember just being stupid with them at 3am. Like playing board games til 6am at Boogies.

Maybe I just had high hopes for my mini-reunion. I wanted to see Josh and be stupid with him. I wanted to annoy Charles and Jeremy. I wanted to be nerdy with Deke. And.. I didn't.

I mean, whats happening to me/us? It seems like we're grown ups. That we have dinner parties and hang out during the day. Fuck, should I try to schedule a lunch meeting next time? I dunno, maybe its just tonight, but why are all so god damned mature all of a sudden. Studying, Working, what the fuck?

Sigh. Maybe I should just give in, grow up, do mature things. I guess it has to happen sooner or later, but.. god dammit, can't we be kids for another year or something? Deke, why did you have to go home? Matt - can't you be crazy and come out? Josh - what the fuck? Charles - I hate you.

Or maybe its just a stupid depressive mood I'm in. Maybe I shouldn't've hoped for such a great time. Maybe I should just relish in seeing people again. Like J and Charles, havn't seen you guys in a while, and it was nice :) Oh well. I guess quiting the evening early had 1 advantage, I have time to jack off before I'm too tired.

I'm just a girl

At Eastern here, we've got a deluge of eating places. Really, at least two dozen different establishments (and they all suck ass). But, there is one in particular that I will draw your attention to for this anecdote.

QuikFix is a convience store you can use your "E" Dollars (for those of us with meal plan) or your Flex money (for those with Flex) (don't ask, its a shitty shitty system imho) to buy things. Things like pop, chips, ice cream, candy, rent movies, tampons, cereal, etc etc.

So yesterday, I was in there getting a Jones Juice. I grabbed a Bananaberry one, and then decided that I didn't want it, but rather wanted D'Peach Mode instead. So I put the Bananaberry one back, in the standard fashion using it to push the bottles in the rack back enough to slide it back in place.

*sounds of glass breaking*

What the hell? Needless to say, we left in a hurry.

Being grown up isn’t half as fun as growing up

Christ, I'm so fucking tired. I'd complely forgotten about this godforsaken part of the day known as "dusk," and how horrible waking up during it is.

I'm taking Field Experience Teacher Education 201, which is basically a bullshit class, imho. One of the components of it is to take a day trip to a Detroit public school. Teach us something about diversity or something. It was kinda interesting, the school was completely bilingual from the get-go. Its in a latino neighborhood; it was started about 10 years ago by educators and parents in the neighborhood. It teaches students Spanish and English from the start, and continues to do so until 8th grade (as high as it goes). It focuses on English in the later grades, since the kids will have to go to an English speaking high school. I think its pretty cool.

But not at 8:30 in the morning. And for the love of god, the coordinator for this class could be Richard Simmons she was so peppy about the most inane things. I just couldn't stand it.

After a few hours observing classes at the school, we went to eat at an authentic Mexican restaurant, and then walked around the train station (plussed out), walked around the waterfront (not plussed out), and went home.

Its time for a nap I think

Lyndsey wanted me to get around to writing about this.

This summer, Lyndsey and her sister Samantha dragged my brother Gene and I to the Kalamazoo County Fair. Entry prices were kind of .. uhh.. pricey. Like $4 for an adult, and $2 for a child, (adult being people older than 14 years of age). And then $2 for the car (parking fee or some shit).

Lyndsey had discovered earlier that week that the seats in her backseat folded down. So, to save money (we were poor) she and Gene piled in the trunk, and cracked the backseat for some air. We saved $6, woot.

It did, however, prompt cries of "Oh Lyndsey!!!!" "Ohhhhhh Gene!!!" much to my chagrin.

Anyways, she thought it was hilarious or something, so there it is.

Just another bomb-track

I just hate people some times. I really. really. really just want to smash someones face against the wall and then kick their bleeding body as it slumps to the floor. I'm really not a horridly violent person most of the time, but some people just... god dammit.

The dorms here have 4 ground floor doorways. Two of them are at either end (on the "short" sides if you view the dorm as a rectangle). The other two are in the middle of the other sides and connect in a sort of lounge/lobby area. We're given keys to these middle two doors, and they're locked at reasonable hours, so thats not a problem. The other two doors (at either end) are locked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This is annoying for a number of reasons. Firstly, if you're coming back from class, you have to walk all the way to the main entrances, and then up the elevator, and then all the way back to the other end of the building where your room is. Secondly, and more importantly, if you go to the Eastern Eateries (one of the many places to get shite food here), you can stay inside as long as possible if you go out one of these doors. But then, you can't get back in that way after getting your food fix, you have to walk all the way back to the main entrance.

To combat this, people often put a stick or a pop can, or a cup or a bottle capor something in the door to prop it open so that they can get back in. Common courtesy says that if someone is coming up behind you, you keep the door open and let them in. And that if you're going out, make sure you either prop it open or make sure the prop that is already there stays there (since bottle caps can fall out of place easily).

Its a pretty good system, no complaints from me.

Except to the *JACK HOLE* I followed back from the Eateries today who purposely knocked the bottle cap out of the door and pulled it shut before I could get through.

I mean, what kind of thought process goes through your head when you do this kind of thing? Its not like you're preventing everyone from doing it, cause you just let yourself in. Its not like you have some moral objection to it, cause you just did it yourself. Its not like its a permanent gesture, cause the next person going out will almost certainly reposition the stopper for themselves.

I just wanted to chase him down and knee him in the groin, kick him in the shins, bend his fingers back to his wrists and then gouge out his eyes. Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid.

"invent"

Lyndsey's roommate Cindy moved out this semester. One of the drawbacks to this is the present lack of a printer. Luckily, neither of us have an extreme need for one right away, but just to be safe (and because I can) I asked my mom to buy me a cheap HP printer. The printer itself cost about $50, good deal, I figured.

Oh, but don't forget to buy your hp 27 black inkjet print cartridge, cause the printer only comes with hp 28 tri-color inkjet print cartridge. Add $20.

Wait wait wait! Don't forget, "please purchase seperately" hp USB cable. Add $20.

What. the. fuck. I buy a printer, and it doesn't *come with* the cord *required* to connect it to the computer? The printer is effectively useless without this cord.

This tells me a couple things about hp and hp printers. A) hp trusts its printers so little, that they expect consumers to buy new ones often, and it makes economic sense to not include a USB cable with every printer, since the majority of printers will be replacements. And/Or B) hp hates its consumers so much that it tricks us into buying something extra like this, so they can mark the printer price real low. I think its a fact that consumers don't mind too many additional expenses, its the major purchase's price they worry about.

Sigh. So anyway, the printer arrived yesterday. The hp 27 black inkjet print cartridge and the hp USB cable are shipped seperately. I should go back and check if I paid for shipping of three seperate items. God damn. That annoys me so much. How much trouble would it have been to put the three things in 1 box so that everything arrives at the same time? So the hp 27 black inkjet print cartridge and hp USB cable should be arriving today, but aren't here yet. But in the mean time, we've got his pretty nifty looking printer sitting here between the computers. A nice $50 paperweight... that holds paper, instead of weighting it.... yeah... thats it.

Bleh. This 5:30pm class is so hard to go to. You wouldn't think so, generally its the morning classes that do you in, no? But I like to take naps in the afternoon. My history class ends at 1:45. Then lunch, so it is like 2:30 before I can even consider sleep. Thats only 2.5 hours of sleep! Today it was only 2! I feel so deprived and sleepy.
Pick a hand, any hand

EMU has three bookstores on campus. Mike's, Ned's, and the Campus Bookstore. The Campus Bookstore is almost always more expensive, so I don't shop there.

So, we're down to two. Now, you would *expect* to find the same material at both stores. It is, after all, the professors's responsibility to inform the bookstores what books will be used. It makes sense to me, therefore, if the professor wants to make it easier for the student to get the course materials to inform both bookstores. Its not like thats too much trouble, really, I would think its only like a bullshit form or something that takes 1 minute to fill out.

But no. It seems all the professors like to use Mike's. But somehow, Ned's still has *some* of the books. Not all of the books (nor do they make mention of the books they are lacking). So I went to my economics class to discover that the textbook I bought was optional (yeah, money!), and there is a required coursepack (boo). Furthermore, my Field Experience Teacher Education class (this is going to be such shite) has a required (not recommended, as Ned's said) book associated with it.

God dammit. This shouldn't be so hard people. Why didn't I have this problem last year? Was I just lucky? Or are the bookstores|professors here out to get me?
